Well that's way above my paygrade to know the ins and outs of all that, but it seems like everyone's flown the coop. I don't know what's going on but its a whole new landscape out there - for Harpoon players.

It's just another forum. If you are looking for other places to announce your scenarios, there are plenty of fora where you currently do not do so. People continue to watch our videos and DL our scenarios to the tune of 100,000+ every month.

I have not needed to use it before, but a scenario that I am currently creating would definitely benefit by having it. It is the French weapon ANS. I know that I have made two other amendments to the Caso Db previously, and I would like to do so again. I just don't quite remember the process of what to do in order to integrate it into what is already released. Do I resave all the existing scenarios with the new amended Db, and then post the updated Caso Db? This amendment won't affect any play in my previous scenarios, because the ANS weapon was never put into play as of yet. Let me know your thoughts.

Yes, weapons records can be added to the General Munitions magazine. I think this might be a simple way to do it:

1) Load the CasoDB into the Reimer DB Editor
2) Go to the General Munitions magazine
3) Locate one of the weapons records already in the magazine. I think they all have the generic (0/10000) capacity
4) Make a duplicate copy of the pre-existing WeapRec
5) Change the weapon information for the new WeapRec to show the ANS
6) Add this new WeapRec to the bottom of the list of WeapRecs for the General Munitions magazine
7) Export the database

The next time you use the new database, the ANS entries will appear at the bottom of any new magazine or ammo dump you add. All the other entries are alphabetized, but that process is quite complicated so I will not go into the details. With regards to your older scenarios, re-saving them with the revised database will synchroinze the to the new database and allow them to run. Since you did not rely upon the weapon when you originally wrote the scenario, its absence should not matter. Just do not expect to be able to use the ANS in your older scenarios because the old magazines do not have the ANS entry. If you are okay with that limitation, then re-saving is fine for your needs.

Hey thanks for the info on the weapons addition. I'm trying to weigh whether it's worth amending the Db for a small change. The Reimer doesn't really work for me. I've been using the Harp 394 Editor in the past. Any thoughts on that? Is there a copy ability in that program? I'll give it some thought, but adapting finished scenarios to an amended Db was what I thought it was, so thanks for that.

The In-Game ANW Editor v3.9.4 (a.k.a. Game Editor) is the one you are using. It is very crude and awkward to use, but it is pretty much functional. I do not think it has any copy function. You would have to create a new WeapRec for ANS and add it to the Generic Munitions magazine. It is certainly possible, but much more cumbersome.

Yes I just did a quick review of it and you're spot on right. I go into the Weapons Record, hit the "New Record" button, and pick ANS from the list. I copy the ROF from thr other ANS entries, but put in the desired 0x10000 amount for the hoohah! I guess I'd save that then go to General Munitions and add it. Seems pretty simple, Just deciding whether I want to go through the hassle. Anyway thanks for the help. Also, ha ha for the England during the blitz comparison!! A very good metaphor.

End of 3rd Battleset“Too Few Victories”

This scenario, “Islands In The Stream Pt 2”, is the seventeenth scenario and the last of the third battleset – “Too Few Victories”. The next battleset of the Indochine Campaign is “The Fifty Yard Line”. With luck and some hard work I'll come out with the first scenario(s) sometime early next year with a projected series of 10 scenarios. I hope you check in and play.

Thanks, Alan Caso

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

The 17th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario

Islands In The Stream Pt 2
Southwest and Central Pacific:
North of the Solomons:

Federated States of Micronesia:

In the previous scenario, the Allies have taken Majuro in the Marshalls and Betio (Tarawa) in the Kiribati island group. This scenario finds the capitol of Palikir in eastern Micronesia as the target of the second offensive action taken by the allies in the war, and the final stage in securing the disparate island groups of the South Central Pacific - another gamble to free the Islands in the Stream.

Author: Alan Caso

This is the seventeenth scenario written for ANW and HUE using the customized CasoDB. The scenario and database are bundled within the PlayersDB installation file due to its phenomenal popularity and ease of use.

Hi Herman,

Here's the announcements. Couple of questions....

This announcement concludes the third Battleset of my Indochine series. "Too Few Victories" has scenarios 12, 13, 14, 14alt, 15, 16 and now 17. This announcement also introduces my next Battleset, "The Fifty Yard Line." As is typical of the pattern, when I let you know of the end of a battleset, I reload the Harpoon game so that my game has all the scenarios in the proper battleset. When Too Few Victories has all the scenarios stated above, I'll go ahead and reload the Harpoon game onto my computer. Having said that, I will get you the text so that you can create the .dsd for my next battleset when we get to that point, hopefully early next year.

I am down to 4 sites on which I announce, now that Matrix seems to not carry Harpoon Players Db very enthusiastically. Wondering if you had some suggestions of sites that are actively still supporting Players Db? I have Game Squad, Harplonk of course, Sim HQ and the Wargamer. Anywhere else?

The revised files have been posted to the server and are now publicly available.

I did not see your announcement on SimHQ or WarGamer. If Matrix wants to commit suicide, that is their prerogative. I'm here to help Players. No one cares about Matrix. There are plenty of sites where Harpoon is discussed and enjoyed. You can try:

I never got to it yesterday due to family and holiday things. I'll do those today and start announcements in some of the other sites you suggested. Thanks.

Hey Herman, I know I probably ask you this everytime, but if I reload the game into my computer from the forum, do I need to shuffle any files before doing so, or am I good to go?

All I can say is that the Installation files will place the scenarios and database in the exact same place every time. If you moved stuff afterwards, then you will have to do it again. However, if you just use the default settings, then the old files will simply be over-written by the new incoming files.
