The 15th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!

15 Action in the Andamans

East Indian Ocean/Bay Bengal/Myanmar/NW Indonesia;
Andaman Islands:

A small combined force of French, British and Australian surface units attempt to chase down merchant raiders and enemy ships disrupting sea lanes along the Andaman Islands and the Northwest Indonesian territory of Aceh.

Being the first Muslim establishment in S E Asia, Aceh Territory has the highest proportion of Muslims in Indonesia. Islamic Fundmentalism is strong, and their support of the Indochine Regime is fanatic.

I know this is a dumb question considering how far down the road of scenario designing I am, but I need to ask it anyway. When you're choosing an air unit to put into the game and you're picking a loadout for that particular unit, does the nm range listed next to the loadout signify the furthest extent out that unit can travel, or does it signify the total round trip range?

When you call up the Air Operations window with F6, the range listed beside the aircraft is the Flight Radius. It is 90% of the maximum radius because 10% is automatically deducted to ensure that the aircraft has sufficient fuel/range to return safely.

Okay. But what about when you're in Scenario Editing and you are loading out a ship with aircraft. For example, you choose to add 2 SV-22 Osprey USN 09 to a ship. When you are Readying those aircraft, you choose the first option, which is - ASM 4x AGM-84D Harpoon - with a range of 559. What does that 559 (I assume nm) represent - 559 nautical miles radius out? Or, 559 nautical miles in total - which would mean roughly 229nm radius? Or, the 90/10% ratio you're saying -which would mean roughly 503 nautical miles out, and 55.9 nm left to get back? Just want to be sure as I am calculating some critical time frames to make the scenario I a currently working on flow well.
Thanks for any clarification. Alan

The range value shown should already be 90% of the maximum Fuel Radius.

The 559nm is 90% of the max Fuel Radius of 621nm, which is 50% of the maximum 1242nm range (one-way).

You should always double-check this for yourself. Sometimes, the easiest and fastest way is just to put the plane in and fly it. NumPad5 activates the range/distance calculator.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, but thanks! That is invaluable knowledge. I do and will double check ranges though. It is a good habit to be sure.

Hi Herman,

I have two scenarios left to finish this particular battleset. After these two, I will close out that battleset (it's the third in the series), and begin a new one which will eventually have 10 new scenarios. I am trying to pace out the releases, but I feel I have gone on a while now without a new release. So, I will probably write my announcements for these scenarios, release one, write an announcement of the closure of the current battleset, and write an announcement for the upcoming battleset. I should have something coming in the next week or so.

Thanks for your help and guidance.

Best,
Alan

The 16th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario

Islands In The Stream Pt 1

Pacific:
North Northeast of the Solomons:

The Marshalls and Kiribati:

Taken at face value, the small Southwest Central Pacific island chains of the Marshalls, Kiribati (former Gilberts) and Micronesia don't really amount to anything more than isolated atolls, which were destination spots for adventurous vacationers before hostilities broke out. Treasured by snorkelers, divers and sports fishermen, these were islands in the stream of well-plied sea routes for trade and commerce. However, in the big picture, they have become strategic points of control since having fallen under Indochine rule.

With the advent of war, Indochine forces quickly snatched up the Marshalls, Kiribati, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Solomons. From bases on these strategic points, the Indochine forces can project power over the sea routes of the southwest central Pacific and provide a stranglehold over Australian and Philippine supply and reinforcement.

In this scenario, we find the Allies attempting their first offensive action in the war by launching a plan to retake Majuro in the Marshalls and Betio (Tarawa) in the Kiribati island group - a desperate gamble to free the Islands in the Stream.

Hey Herman,
Do you know what's happened at th HArpoon site at Matrix? I went there and all recent posts have been erased, including my thread for the Caso Db and all my scenario announcements. Pretty weird....

Yes. It happened on 03 September, 2014.

Hi Herman,

I've run across a weapon that is not listed in the "General Munitions" loadout for ships magazines. I have not needed to use it before, but a scenario that I am currently creating would definitely benefit by having it. It is the French weapon ANS. I know that I have made two other amendments to the Caso Db previously, and I would like to do so again. I just don't quite remember the process of what to do in order to integrate it into what is already released. Do I resave all the existing scenarios with the new amended Db, and then post the updated Caso Db? This amendment won't affect any play in my previous scenarios, because the ANS weapon was never put into play as of yet. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Alan

Well that's way above my paygrade to know the ins and outs of all that, but it seems like everyone's flown the coop. I don't know what's going on but its a whole new landscape out there - for Harpoon players.
