Hey Herman,

I've been trying to load up a zipped copy of the newly amended Caso Db, but for some reason the server at my work here is either too slow or something is wrong where it ain't happening. I'll try when I get home tonight. In the meantime, I have the announcements for the amended Caso Db and the 3rd Battleset - "Too Few Victories." Below are those two texts. I'll send the zipped Db when I can get it loaded up. Thanks.

.................................................................................

2nd Amended Caso dB

There is a new, 2nd update of the Caso dB which reflects changes in the turn-around or “ready time” of most aircraft loadouts. The loadouts have been accelerated for quicker game play. To some of the more traditional and conservative gamers of the Harpoon community, this most likely will be viewed as heresy. However, the Indochine Campaign is based on a “what if” premise, so certain liberties have already been taken. For the sake of keeping the game moving and exciting, the intent is to prevent long and drawn out scenarios. You will find the update in the Players DB Harpoon Library, and along with it all the Indochine scenarios to date will be re-synched with the new database. In addition, this notice announces the 3rd and latest Indochine Battleset, “Too Few Victories,” which will be comprised of six new scenarios. Thanks and enjoy!

Alan Caso

.............................................................................................

03.0 Too Few Victories

This is to announce the 3rd Battleset of the Indochine Conflict, consisting of six scenarios that occur during May-Jun of 2007.

Text:

Still finding themselves in a defensive posture, the Allies look desperately for somewhere to strike a blow. Morale is low, and the defeatists have the podium. The strategists realize that although a quick victory would be a welcome event, holding the line is the most important action at this point. Spin doctors try to paint a positive picture while the strategy is to hold tight and stay the course.

Here is the DSD file for the third battleset. It will change to include the new scenarios once they are posted.

Thanks Herman. I'm going to try sending my Db to myself, to see if the problem is my server or the forum.

The forum software allows only 15mB (or maybe 20mB) for forum attachments. Be sure that the *.zip file is not that large. It should not be that large, but sometimes you include some large video or VCR files inadvertently.

The Caso Db shows a file after zipping of 122mB. I don't have any video in the Db, so I don't know what could be driving it up so big. The Caso Db, unzipped, is 208 mB. Maybe my zip utility isn't working that well.

Also, I screwed up on the DSD file. I gave you the posting announcement. The DSD should read:

TEXT:

This is third Indochine Battleset consisting of six scenarios that occur during May-Jun of 2007.

Still finding themselves in a defensive posture, the Allies look desperately for somewhere to strike a blow. Morale is low, and the defeatists have the podium. The strategists realize that although a quick victory would be a welcome event, holding the line is the most important action at this point. Spin doctors try to paint a positive picture while the strategy is to hold tight and stay the course.

..................................................................................

Sorry about that Herman. I don't suppose you could resend the DSD? Also, any ideas of why the Db zip is so big, other than video?

These are the only elements required for the database. Everything else is superfluous. You probably have a number of extraneous large files in the folder(s) such as logs, saved games, or others. A revised DSD file is attached. The CasoDB file (unzipped) creates folder and sub-folders with 11.9mB in size.

Hey Herman,

I have a lot of pictures in the Caso Db which I never use - 122 mB's worth. I think they are all the downloads I did when I was trying to get the Media Reference to work in the Pull Down Window of the Platform Display - which I never did get working. Can I eliminate them? Also, There's alot of AA Logs in the scenario folder - probably from when I was testing scenarios. Can I get rid of those?

I would certainly get rid of all the AALog sub-folders. If you don't use the Pictures sub-folder, you can get rid of it, too. However, the only required dB items are the 19 files shown in the attached image. Just zip up those 19 items and attach them to this thread.

So I don't need to send the following folders:

Pics, Scenarios, Text, H3dsdEdit, loadoutcheck.txt, magazinecheck.txt, mountcheck.txt .......and alot of other .txt's?

Also, thanks for redoing the DSD file!

The only files required for a new database release are the 19 shown in the image. All others are superflous.

The *check.txt files are only there to help you de-bug a database. Unless you have made some changes to the text in CasoDB, the Text file is not necessary. The scenarios sub-folder only holds scenarios and no DB information.

Hey Herman,

Thanks for the info. Clearly that was the issue. Learned that lesson the hard way. Attached is the Db. When it's added to the library, I'll make the announcements. Also to remind, I have resynched all the existing scenarios to date. Thanks and best, Alan

I will revise the date so that it it says 2013.10.21 to reflect today's release. Since you re-synchronized the pre-existing scenarios, please attach them so that I may include them in the Library installer.

Will there be any new scenarios?
Or, are you only planning to release the revised database and update the pre-existing scenarios for it?

I have the first two new scenarios for "Too Few Victories," but thought I'd get the revised Db into the library and these announcements out first. The first new one is all tested and checked out. The second has been tested, but I just want to do a final look over before posting.

Here are the resynced scenarios for "Opening Salvos" and "The Abyss of War."
