Y2kDB lives up to its name

Postby Herman Hum » Sat Dec 09, 2006 8:08 pm

Anyone ever wonder why the DB2000 was named after the Y2k Bug? The mystery has been solved!

Load the latest version of the Y2k v10.0.0 and everything will be made crystal clear to everyone. It causes EVERY publicly available version of Harpoon 3 to crash!

I guess that explains the supposed "1200 DLs". If true, the poor bastards were desperately looking for something that worked. More likely, there were never 1200 DLs in the first place. Otherwise, the crash would have been found the minute anyone actually tried to run the game.

Now, there's no way anyone will see the evidence of these 1200 claimed DLs (at least until it is fabricated), but ANYONE can dL the database and experience the wonderful crash for themselves.

That's right, sports fans. Not a single version of Harpoon3 will work with this database. RagBag has "improved" it so much that it is incompatible with anything in existence. Not Harpoon3 v3.6.3 SE. Not with Harpoon3: ANW v3.7.0. Not even with the disastrous ANW v3.7.1 Beta "un-Patch" Patch that rendered MP unplayable.

Way to go. At least with the older version 6.5.31, you could load the game, play a bit before experiencing a crash. Now, the new and improved version 10.0.0 just crashes you right when you try to load it!

How excellent is that? No more need to waste time playing with the Y2kDB to get a crash after a few hours. You can have your CTD right at the beginning! Do not pass GO. Do not Collect $200.

Thanks, RagBag, for saving us all the time. You've really outdone yourself. Instead of giving up on the Change Log, you should just give up on this disaster....

Hey, the Y2kDB has been [partially] fixed! Hurrah! 8)

At least it doesn't crash during loading anymore....

Now, you have to run a hour or so before finding a crash. Good job. Looks like SOMEONE reads HarPlonk.

Now, if we can only do something about fixing all the other crash bugs. And to think that I managed to find this with ONE DL. Makes me wonder how "1200 [supposed] DLs" went by and no one found the crash.

Well, I guess we got two de-bunkments for the price of one, today.

Looks like RagBag is whining again about the buggy behavior from his Y2kDB.

Here's a hint: Try dumping the bug-infested Y2kDB and using a properly constructed one such as the PlayersDB or the HUD. You'll be much happier.

Of course, he's posted the bugs already reported to * Known Harpoon 3.7 [ANW] Issues and claimed them as his own discoveries. How typical.

Just another example of the "high level of testing" and quality associated with the Y2kDB.

Can you believe that this entry has been in this bug-infested database and crashing scens since June 21, 2004? That's over 2 1/2 years!

Good job, Paul.

Now, can you find the other 7 entries that are currently known to do the same thing?

This is a minor issue to be sure but still worth noting. Of the 4 major databases I have loaded in my Reimer's H3 database editors only one doesn't calculate aircraft ranges. The Colonial, 65-79, and Player's databases all calculate a/c ranges. Only DB2000 doesn't, and hasn't for the last several versions.

Looks like you have taken it upon yourself to de-bug the Y2kDB all on your own! Be sure to set aside, LOTS of time, then!

It must be due to that super-special ultra-secret formula he uses to calculate the fuel consumed by the turbo-charged Catastrophic Converter in his Combat Weather Balloon units. :P
