The 20th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario

Operation McHale

S. Central and Central Pacific/Solomons:
Coral Sea:

The US, French and Australian navies conduct a joint invasion to take back New Caledonia and Vanuatu. These Indochine bases provide a southern buffer for the enemy's large force concentration north, in the Solomons.

Due to this proximity, any Allied offensive operation aimed at driving north into New Guinea, the Coral Sea and the Solomons could prove to be a dangerous gambit while a well-supplied and determined enemy based in New Caledonia and Vanuatu threaten the Allied flank. Additionally, these air bases and ports are heavily defended by extensive air and surface forces.

Having said that, the necessity of neutralizing these bases outweighs the risks involved. It's a green light for Operation McHale.

Hey Herman,
Sorry I've been off the grid for a while. Been out of country for work. Still am, but checking back in. I still have scenarios in the pipeline at different stages of development. I notice an increase of activity in the forum with Harpoon. Are we getting people coming back to it, or new younger interested members? Anyway, I'll be working new Indochine scenarios, testing the ones done and sending them to you for release. Just wanted to let you know I'm still here.
Best,
Alan

There is always activity with Harpoon; not all of it is public. IMHO, the only measure of any relevance is the steady number of scenario downloads.

Well that's good news because it keeps me coming back and motivated to continue writing scenarios. I love this game and that's just the simple truth. It's my favorite down time!

Hey Herman,
I have a question that I've been meaning to ask for long time but keep on forgetting. Are the ADM-TALD's A+C effective to use as a weapon at all in Harpoon? I remember in the old Fleet Command, they were very effective to use as an enemy missile waster. You shoot a bunch of TALD's at the enemy, and they waste all their SAM's on the TALD's, then you follow in with your AGM's/ASM's and are able to penetrate more effectively. Is there any way to use TALD's effectively in Harpoon ANW?
Cheers,
Alan

The ADM-TALD are supposed to be fired on Bearing-Only Launch to attract enemy defensive fire. They work differently in the various game versions.

They fire, but I am not certain if the AI is able to engage them in H3.
In ANW, there was a bug (I cannot remember if it was ever fixed) when engagement of the decoy (with guns?) could cause a crash.
I do not remember if any further testing was conducted for the HUE version.

Some database editors simply changed them from decoys to missiles (with very small warheads) so that they would fire normally and that the AI could use them. (The AI cannot employ any weapons requiring BOL activation.)

Thanks Herman, will get to it this weekend. Sorry but I've juggling work hours and Harpoon for the last 4 months, and work hours unfortunately has been winning. But as we get into the holidays, I'll have more time. I actually have finished all 10 scenarios for this fourth battleset, but I haven't play tested the rest yet. The one I am about to send is the last play-tested scenario. So I have a lot of playing to do over the next month. Cheers, Alan
