In the Dawn Patrol scenario the Gotenburg carries RBS-15 medium range cruise missiles with a 42nm range.
Why, when I have located a target will they not fire out to the red surface weapon range mark?

Targets that are only 20nm cant be fired at by the RBS-15 as it keeps saying target out of range...

Likewise when I fire a test round as a BOL instead of a RBS-15 firing, a Type 431 missile with a 10nm range launches, yet the entry log for the Gotenburg lists its weapon mounts as Twin RBS-15 and makes no mention of the Type 431...

Any ideas please?

A few ideas come to mind.

Some missiles require active radar guidance (at least during the launch). I do not remember if this is the case for RBS-15 (I think not), but you can try it.

If your target is located within a large Zone of Uncertainty, the game is trying to fire on the target that is actually outside your range. Just because the icon appears to be within range, as shown by the ZoU, the actual range is outside the ZoU, so the game will not allow you to fire. The fact that you can fire other weapons shows that the game is actually working.

Another problem you may be seeing is some kind of Database mismatch. Be sure to use the PlayersDB. You may be using the Official DB (ODB) instead, as it is usually set as the default after the game is installed. There are several bugs with those scenarios and database.

Of your two ideas,
1 There was no area of uncertainty, the target's position was fully identified.
2 There was though a Database mismatch. When I installed the Players Database and retried the scenario, the RBS-15s flew perfectly and there were no mysterious Type 431s.

Well done those builders of the Players Database!

A marked difference between the PlayersDB and others is that we take the time to test and ensure that every weapon actually works. There are plenty of databases out there with the same faulty performance you describe with the ODb.
